Abstract :
Looks at the parkland of the Villa Doria Pamphili in Rome, approaching it on two methodological levels. The first consists of an interpretation of the design of the Villa based on the history of its land acquisitions. Second, the article suggests that, in certain cases, Italian villas and gardens of the early modern period can be understood in precise relationships to their territorial settings. As landed properties, they developed within specific geographical and social networks. ;
