Abstract :
Reports on a controversy that has arisen in Boston and Lawrence, Massachusetts, over the disposition of a group of 16 paintings, including Monet's 2Field of Poppies at Giverny, 1890. The paintings are owned by a non-profit trust in Lawrence, but have been on display at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts since 1911. Lawrence now wants to sell the works to raise money for arts education programs in the relatively underfunded town, while the Boston museum counters that the bequest's purpose was to keep the paintings accessible to citizens of the region, and that they must not be sold. ;
