- Abstract :
- Chronicles the design and creation of the Ipswich estate of Crane, who hired the Olmsted brothers in 1909 to landscape the magnificent property of his summer home on the Massachusetts coast. Through an examination of the correspondence between Crane, a manufacturing magnate, and the Olmsted firm (Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr. and John Olmsted), shows that by the time the Olmsteds left the project, in 1912, significant conflicts had developed between them and their client. ;
