Abstract :
Argues that 'Tintoretto's achievement of artistic dominance in Venice by the later decades of the Cinquecent stands as evidence that he operated a cohesive and successful business strategy,' and goes on to analyze his income and methods. Suggests that his strategy consisted in three components: manipulation of prices, speed of execution and overproduction. Compares and contrasts his approach to those of the Bellini family, Titian, Lorenzo Lotto and others. Appendix: chart of prices of paintings (ca.1540-1594) by Tintoretto. ;
