Title :

Varieties of repetition : 'trend' versus 'brand' in landscape paintings by Joachim Patinir and his workshop

Author :
KOLB, Arianne Faber ;

1998
Language :
English ;
Abstract :
Following Patinir's development as a landscape painter, while simultaneously observing the artistic output of his workshop, Kolb tries to determine whether it was Patinir's economic choice or rather his pure artistic inspiration that helped create a new market for landscape paintings depicting devotional themes. Should he be perceived as an entrepreneur, who created a market with his innovations, or rather as a manager, who satisfied a market that rewarded the skillful treatment of genre expectations, or possibly both? ;
