Abstract :
Reports on the excavation of part of the Tudor moat at Hampton Court Palace. Environmental samples dating to the early post-medieval period were recovered from the bottom of the ditch. Finds retrieved from the layers of backfill consisted mostly of 18th and 19th c. pottery, glass and clay pipe fragments; a small quantity of earlier post-medieval pottery and clay pipe was also found. Features relating to a 19th c. garden layout or border were discovered. The foundation of a number of 19th c. brick structures were also found. These can be related to buildings shown on contemporary maps. ;
