Abstract :
Although evidence is almost all unstratified, anomalous Anglo-Saxon finds from Scotland are listed by date of manufacture and of deposition, drawing attention to their presence and to the difficulties arising in assessing them. Material evidence for a significant Anglian presence or actual settlement in Scotland before the 6th c., however, remains to be identified. Argues that the Anglo-Saxon presence in Scotland was predominantly southern, especially in the south-east and south-west, and that elsewhere the few finds of Anglo-Saxon type point to a small amount of early Anglian activity, but without settlement. ;
