Abstract :
An exhibition of 19th and early 20th c. Dutch paintings which focuses attention on the village of Laren, near Amsterdam, and its association with the development of modern Dutch painting. Laren was important to two generations of Dutch painters active in the last quarter of the 19th c. The first generation was the more traditional plein-air painters of the Hague School, and the second was the avant-garde painters who were based primarily in Amsterdam but who frequented Laren.
