Title :

Engraving and cut decoration in early American glassware : some new finds

Author :

Abstract :
Author adds one item to the group of published early American engraved glass pieces - a Pittsburgh celery vase engraved with an urn, bouquet and seated greyhound. He tentatively attributes this piece to the Stourbridge Flint Glass Works, ca.1823-1845. Green then looks at the so-called 'engraving' of early 19th c. New England glass, i.e., glass cut with a stone wheel rather than engraved with a copper wheel. This work required a lower level of skill, yet offered an attractive product that Green says deserves an honored place in the history of American glass making. ;
