- An account of Prince Rupert's involvement in improving both the accuracy and the safety of guns and gunfounding. In 1671, he obtained a patent for a secret process whereby cast iron cannon could be made lighter and more cheaply. Contemporary documents, and the guns themselves, provide evidence of the financial, adminstrative and social ramifications. ;
