- Abstract :
- Follows the efforts of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania to secure a permanent location, which culminated in the 1882 acquisition of the Robert Patterson mansion at 13th and Locust Streets in Philadelphia. Shortly thereafter, the Society oversaw additions on the site: an assembly hall and a fireproof storage area. The fireproof addition - the Gilpin Annex - was constructed by the Gilpin Trust to house Henry Gilpin's library which was bequeathed to the Society. ;
