- Abstract :
- Studies Leonardo's drawing Five Grotesque Heads (Royal Collection, Windsor), positing that it is neither a self-contained composition nor a narrative pendant to another Windsor drawing (as proposed by Clark and Pedretti). Instead, asserts that it represents an infectious laughter; relates this to a famous painting by Michelino, now lost but described by Lomazzo, in which four peasants show varying degrees of laughter. ;
