Abstract :
Presents materials related to the recent history of the Villa Sciarra (Rome). Summarizes the 17th- and 18th-c. history of the site before focusing on 20th-c. additions and modifications to the buildings and grounds undertaken by George Washington Wurts after the American's acquisition of the villa in 1902. Notes a casina of 1906-1910 by Virgilio Ribacchi, a new gated entrance of 1908-1909 by Pio Piacentini, a belvedere of 1910-1912 by Ugo and Enrico Gennari, and the placement of garden statuary two decades later. Reproduces an inventory of 1930 as an appendix. ;
