Abstract :
Re-examines the 1913 excavation and artefacts recovered which included stone, bone/antler, iron, lead, bronze, animal bones and wooden material. The range of artefacts on balance appear to have seen use in the earlier half of the 2d millennium AD. The lack of stratigraphic information provided by the original report makes it impossible to ascertain the exact sequence of construction and occupation on site. The fact that the most closely datable artefacts indicate a 13th c. date and that the rest of the artefacts comfortably fall into the same period offer a possibility of the construction of the site in the high medieval period. However, it may equally have been inhabited in the preconquest period with some form of reoccupation in the 13th c. Discusses the idea that it might be a type of ringfort rather than a crannog. ;
