Abstract :
An account of the London clock and watch makers, their products, associates and family. Covering movements, dials and cases, traces the rise of a major business and sets it in its horological and political context. The Windmills took part in negotiations between the Clockmakers' and Goldsmiths' Companies, in a serious dispute about silver standards for watch or clock cases. They were clock maintenance contracters to HM Office of Ordinance at the Tower of London and at Woolwich, and had other Crown orders. ;
