- Abstract :
- For some artists, being able to forget is as essential as being able to remember, and Géricault was such a case. This paper explores the functions of forgetting in his oeuvre, demonstrating its importance for the artist's definition of his relation to tradition and vis-à-vis contemporary notions of history painting, as well as for his conception of the beholder. ;
