Abstract :
Although the monasteries were dissolved about 1540 this did not bring to an end their influence on landscape and local economies. Even where extra-parochial status had not been acquired, the sites chosen for monastic houses and granges often continued to be relevant to settlement and landscape history long after the monastic period. Demonstrates the advantages of studying a diverse range of sources - archaeological, cartographic and documentary - over a long period. Looks principally at two monastic granges in the Keteven parish of Canwick. ;
