Abstract :
Development of a piece of land adjacent to the moated site of Moreteyne Manor on the west side of Marston Moretaine provided the first opportunity for an archaeological investigation within the village. Five phases of activity were identified within the study area, ranging in date from the early to late medieval periods. These phases encapsulate a change in land use from settlement to arable over a relatively short period of time. This transition may have been partially driven by the construction of the adjacent moated site. Several of the early closes survived until the 19th c. and influenced the subsequent layout of the modern fields. Describes associated pottery assemblages. ;
