Abstract :
This study proposes that there is a corpus of art that can be defined as 'Crusader,' and that it is, generally speaking, those works produced for Crusader patrons between 1098 and 1291 in the Holy Land, and mainly in the Latin Kingdom of Jerualem. Furthermore, it is argued that this art has distinctive iconographic aspects. Certain characteristics of these works, together with their iconography, are explored in this paper, firstly, by considering how the idea of iconography in Crusader art has developed over the years and, secondly, by looking at some current problems in this area. ;
