Abstract :
Between the years 1805 and 1818, Sir George Cockburn completely remodelled his house which had been built near the ruins of the old castle sometime during the 1790s. For posterity, he wrote a letter describing the work on his house, and how stones from the old castle were used to build the chimney and tower of his picture gallery. He enclosed the manuscript in a bottle and buried it in a wall in the castle. Publishes the letter, and some archive photographs of the castle and its collection. ;
