Studies the iconography of two sculpted capitals at the church of S. Georges, Riom-ès-Montagnes, connecting it to historical events of the 1120s that took place in Auvergne.apitals refer to struggles between the church at Auvergne and members of the Auvergnat nobility, known for usurping allodial and ecclesiastical properties and rights, and for attacking the peasantry.enes are linked to a property dispute between the Church and temporal lords related by Abbot Suger in his Deeds of Louis the Fat, in which knights of King Louis captured Auvergnat rebels and punished them by severing a hand of each.ing his own severed hand. ;
