Abstract :
Includes an introduction by Stan Godlovitch; 'Garden's powers,' by Stephanie Ross; 'Creativity in nature,' by Stan Godlovitch; 'The value of natural sounds,' by John Andrew Fisher; and 'Appreciating natural beauty as natural,' by Ronald Moore. Ross asks how gardens may become works of art, with special attention to 17th and 18th-c. French and British gardens, e.g., Stowe, Stourhead, and the labyrinth at Versailles. She considers the matter of defining 'garden' and the relation of a work to a site. Godlovitch discusses the meaning of 'creative,' especially as a term of positive appraisal, and why nature cannot be 'literally creative.' Fisher looks at the natural soundscape and the enjoyment thereof. Moore argues for a view of natural aesthetics that reaffirms nature's connection with the art experience. He considers examples of glass flowers and works by Andy Warhol. ;
