Abstract :
On adaptations of the Tree of Life iconography in medieval art commissioned by religious orders. Focuses on a mural painting in the Benedictine church of S. Leo, Bitonto (Puglia region), showing the Tree flanked by S. Benedict and the founders of other monastic orders. The work, an explicit celebration of monasticism, is datable to the mid-14th c. ;
