Abstract :
On Michelangelo's project for the sculptural decoration of the exterior of S. Peter's, Rome, and on its Medieval sources. Observes that Michelangelo envisioned a rich sculptural apparatus, including statues encircling the cupola drum and probably also in the exterior facade niches and along the length of the attic. Suggests that he intended the sculpture to function as a visual bridge between the gigantic proportions of the architecture and the spectator. ;
