Abstract :
A two-part article. Part 1 reassesses the 'discovery' (published in the Corriere della Sera, 1965, by Mario Miniaci) of the late 16th-c. sepulchral monuments of Carlo Maria Matteo Farnese and his wife, Zeusa, in the crypt of the Castello di Belvoglio (Piedmont region). According to Miniaci, tombs and a surrounding treasure-trove were detected using an electronic device. Notes that the veracity of this claim has not been adaquately tested, and suggests that excavations should be considered. Part 2 analyzes the architecture of the Torrione farnesiano (completed mid-16th c.) in Castell'Arquato and hypothetically reconstructs the phases of its construction. Observes architectural ambiguities that suggest both military and domestic typologies, and notes that the tower may have originally been linked with another building. ;
