Examines the history of the Dia Art Foundation (founded 1974), focusing on the original vision and ongoing influence of the dealer Heiner Friedrich.tists and to find permanent or long-term homes for large installation and site-specific works and land art.s combined with financial setbacks (including stock losses to the main source of funding, the inheritance of Philippa de Menil) almost led to the collapse of the foundation.he foundation's permanent collection, located in a 1929 factory building in Beacon, NY (originally built for the National Biscuit Company and owned by the International Paper Corporation, which donated the building to Dia), renovated by the artist Robert Irwin and the firm Open Office, among others.ion: Donald Judd's art compound in Marfa, TX (under the direction of the Chinati Foundation; featuring installation works by Judd and Dan Flavin); and Walter De Maria's Lightning Field, west of Albuquerque, NM. ;
