- Abstract :
- Pleasure gardens were essential recreational facilities in spa and seaside resorts between 1750-1840, but the majority did not last. A case study is made of Brighton in Sussex to illustrate the different types of pleasure garden that existed and to discuss why the majority of gardens lasted only for short periods. The influence of the pleasure gardens in London on the management of those in resorts is also discussed. ;
