Abstract :
Describes a new type of title-page in printed books that emerges in the 1470s and early 1480s, most notably in Venice. Studies antecedents and major examples of this 'architectural' title-page which incorporates the printed text in the form of a text inscribed on or affixed to a classical monument. Includes discussion of examples by Vendramini, the Master of the Putti, Nicolaus Jensen, and Girolamo da Cremona, among others. ;
