- Abstract :
- Explores statistics on 19th-c. museums in Great Britain on the basis of 19th-c. reports (often referred to as 'blue books') issued by parliamentary committees. Notes that museums were often the subject of parliamentary scrutiny, and that the directors and other personnel of the British Museum, National Gallery and Victoria and Albert Museum were questioned for the reports. Cites statistics and information on museum loans, visitors, plans to resite the National Gallery, scientific collections, etc. ;
