- Examines 20th-c. historiographical views of the Baroque style, focusing on architecture and indicating theoretical positions and exploring the gradual shift in consensus from a negative to a positive view. Proposes the following thematic terms for classifying the poetics of baroque architecture: the anti-dogmatic use of the classical architectural idiom and a new compositional method for aggregating the basic elements of that system; a new relationship and interaction between the architecture and its surroundings; the invention of new typologies adapted to new religious, political and social exigencies; illusionism; and persuasion and rhetoric. Discusses related topics, especially the principles and essential elements of constructed baroque spaces. ;
