Abstract :
Uses old survey maps to determine whether large farms (seats of magnates) existed at the central sites of Ravlunda and Uppþkra from the late Iron Age to the Viking Age. Attempts to trace a relationship between such farms and later medieval manorial estates. Determines the existence and layout of a 12th-13th-c. royal manor at Ravslunda, but finds no evidence for a manorial structure at Uppþkra, despite evidence for the existence of a large farm there in the Viking Age. ;
