- Discusses Russian religious and building activities in Jerusalem during the 19th c. Describes the Russian compound near the Jaffa Gate, including the consulate, Holy Trinity Cathedral, a hospital, and hospices. Considers the Russian Orthodox churches of the Ascension and S. Mary Magdalene (1885-1888) on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. Comments on the Russian monastery in Ein Karem, begun during the 1880s, and its church, Our Lady of Kazan (1893). ;
