- Discusses two self-portraits painted by Nicolas Poussin, one from 1649 (Gemäldegalerie, Berlin) and one from 1650 (Louvre, Paris). Traces the history of how Poussin came to paint the self-portaits; also investigates them in light of contemporary aesthetics of production and reception of self-portraits. Argues that productive insights about these paintings can emerge if they are viewed as being in dialogue with each other rather than as one simply following the other. ;
