Discusses attribution, dating, and chronology of oil paintings by Jan Van Eyck, comparing the two versions of S. Francis Receiving the Stigmata (both 1430-1432; Turin, Galleria Sabauda; Philadelphia Museum of Art). Also comments on the Franciscan tradition of pilgrimage and Van Eyck's depiction of patrons Nicholas Rolin, and the brothers Jacob and Pieter Adornes. ;
