- Looks at 19th-c. initiatives to memorialise the philanthropist Chetham publicly, and examines how his name became part of the history of Manchester. A monument to him by the sculptor William Theed, based on the 17th-c. portrait likeness in Chetham Library, was installed in Manchester cathedral in 1853. Other memorials in sculpture and painting followed. ;
