- Discusses the relationship between antique and medieval art reflected in Italian sculpted heads of the gothic period. Highlights the influence of the Hohenstaufen Emperor Frederick II, who promoted classicizing tendencies through his arts patronage. Notes the importance of post-Renaissance collectors for the preservation of medieval Italian sculpted heads and faces. Followed by a descriptive catalogue of eight sculpted heads influenced by classical style. ;
