Abstract :
Studies the mid-15th-c. urban and architectural history of the Piazza Pio II in Pienza as part of pope Pius II's project (architect: Bernardo Rossellino) to transform the rural village of Corsignano (renamed Pienza) into a temporary residence for the papal court. Presents a metrological analysis that revealed two basic compositive elements: an alignment axis, and the golden section as the module of the pavement design. Appendix: chronology, 1459-1464. ;
