Examines Lironi's training and career in Rome, and his patrons, stylistic development, relations with the Accademia di S. Luca, and his works (in S. Peter's, S. Maria Maggiore, etc.). On the basis of a previously unpublished document (death certificate) which states that he died in 1746 at the age of 55, concludes that he was born in 1791. Appendix: documents, 1731-1746. ;
