- Abstract :
- Considers the identity of the engraver responsible for two early mezzotint portraits of George and Martha Washington after paintings by Charles Willson Peale which were commissioned by John Hancock in 1776. Suggests the mezzotint portraits were the work of the Salem engraver Samuel Blyth, rather than of John Hiller, Sr. Looks at examples of work by both printmakers. ;
