- Abstract :
- Interprets the meaning of Piero di Cosimo's painting Forest Fire (Oxford, Oxford University, Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology), comparing it with two other spalliera paintings by the artist in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Suggests that the panels echo some of the images in Lucretius's poem De rerum natura relating to the origins of language and the development of human society. ;
