- Salvage recording on the northern burh defences at Totnes showed that they consisted of a rampart ca.9m wide and a large ditch ca.5m deep. A primary organic deposit in the ditch dated to the 11th or 12th c.; the defences appear to have been abandoned in the late 14th or 15th c. Observations made in recent years on other parts of the defences are also described <Specialist reports discuss the pottery, a petrological study of selected sherds, and the Saxo-Norman mammalian, bird, and fish bone>. ;
