Abstract :
Offers detailed descriptions of 115 embossed guldgubbar, 5 related patrices (dies), and seven individually-made figures. Discusses motifs and iconography, including the appearance of the figures (males, females, and male-female pairs), their hair, dress, attributes (including staffs, scepters, clubs, drinking vessels, and neck rings), postures, and gestures. Considers whether some of the gestures and attributes can be used to identify some of the guldgubbar as specific gods (Odin, Thor, and Freyr). Suggests dating to the Migration/Merovingian period transition or shortly after. Compares the foils to others found in Scandinavia, especially at Bornholm. ;
