- Chronicles the early life and career of the British-born printer Thomas Calvert, from the founding of his graphic arts firm in Philadelphia in 1852 to 1876, when he became an American citizen. Calvert's firm specialized in making cameo stamps, small logotypes that preceded trademarks. The article describes the process of making cameo stamps and discusses their use and popularity during the mid-19th c. ;
