- Reviews the following exhibitions in New York that, intentionally or otherwise, offered a relevant commentary on the Museum of Modern Art's history and present form (coinciding with the museum's Nov 2004 reopening): Aristide Maillol sculpture (and some drawings) at Marlborough Gallery (to 27 Nov 2004); What's modern? (Gagosian, to 18 Dec 2004); an exhibition of German and Austrian Expressionists at Galerie St Etienne (to 8 Jan 2005); Picasso - Beckmann/Beckmann - Picasso (Richard L. Feigen, to 31 Jan 2005) which included paintings, prints, and sculptures; Art in the mirror: the counterproofs of Mary Cassatt (Adelson Galleries, to 14 Jan 2005); and Milton Avery: onrushing waves (Knoedler, to 29 Jan 2005) which traced the artist's obsession with the sea in his paintings, drawings, and sketchbooks. ;
