- Abstract :
- Considers the work of the 19th-c. British landscape architect Harold Peto. Examines the role that Italian culture, and in particular some architectural features of Roman archaeological remains, played in Peto's garden designs. Argues that the paintings of the contemporary artist Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema often served as a source for Peto's sketches rather than the original remains of the classical world. ;
