Abstract :
Examines the illustration of the virtuous and sinful uses of wealth and the consequences of each choice, in three miniature cycles from a copy of the Breviari d'amor (London, British Library Royal MS 19.C.I.), an encyclopedic poem written by Matfre Ermengaud. Focuses on the Works of Mercy1 cycle, the so-called Vainglory cycle and the Ten Torments of Hell1 cycle from the manuscript, which was produced in Toulouse ca.1320-1325 and was probably separated from the authorial original by only one copy. Attributes the entire illustrative program of the Breviari to Matfre, including the diagrammatic Albre d'Amor. ;
