- Reports on recent research that suggests that Lisa Gherardini, allegedly the model for Leondardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa (1503-1506; Paris, Musée national du Louvre) was pregnant or had just given birth when the portrait was executed. High-resolution laser scanning has revealed a fine, gauzy veil attached to a white bonnet worn by the sitter, and such garments were traditionally worn during pregnancy. ;
