- Abstract :
- Discusses Frederick's complex tastes as a collector and patron of painting, the decorative arts, architecture and garden design. Argues that his two general aims were to emulate Charles I, and to follow the example of certain English contemporaries. Posits he was most innovative in the way he used his collecting and patronage to mark out a political and philosophical position, to convey an image of himself which was reassuringly familiar to his future subjects. ;
