- Abstract :
- Final article in a series on the early use of photography for recording and reproducing works of art, particularly in Britain. Surveys the role of the following institutions in the development of documentary photography: the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the National Gallery, and the Society of Antiquaries (all in London); also surveys exhibitions of or including photography. Finally, examines the development of architectural photography, noting two styles, picturesque and documentary; and briefly discusses a number of French and British projects, including Piot's Italie monumentale, the campaigns of the Commission des Monuments Historiques (the Missions héliographiques), and the activities of the Architectural Photographic Association. ;
