- Examines the use of framing and frame-like devices in the British illustrators' vignettes, especially for children's books. Suggests that the inclusion of these features, along with the practice of layering imagery in the small prints, serves to control the viewer/reader's ability to participate in the narrative and moralizing process begun by the books' text. ;
